Avtograf - America revisited

The soviet rock band Avtograf, which was the first Russian band to tour the U.S. in February and March of this year, has returned to record their new material for an album projected for worldwide release in early 1989.

Avtograf was the only Russian group to participate in Bob Geldof's "Live Aid for Africa" via satellite in 1985, as well as Bill Graham's July 4, 1987 "Rock 'n Roll Summit” in Moscow with James Taylor, Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt and The Doobie Brothers. The band's U.S. tour was a great success, paving the way for an international record contract. Band leader and lead guitarist Sasha Sitkovetsky feels that Avtograf has made great strides in updating their progressive rock style as a result of their exposure to the american rock market.

Avtograf appears today as the keynote guest at the press conference for "Music Speaks Louder Than Words", the Soviet - American songwriters' exchange planned for October in Moscow. Sasha, who is the Chairman of the rock and roll committee of the Soviet Union is enthusiastic about the opportunity for top Soviet and American songwriters to collaborate on a one to one level. He feels that there will be great benefits for all of those who participate in this project based on Avtograf's co-writing experiences with Meri D. Marshall who has worked with the band both as a writer and performer in the U.S. and in Russia for the past year, and with MSLTW project originator Alan Roy Scott.

Avtograf is currently co-managed by well-known manager Herb Cohen and Mary Becker, who promoted their American tour earlier this year.
